Supporting your hospital - Help a Heart Campaign
With pressure on NHS budgets more intense than ever the League of Friends continues to support the Tunbridge Wells Hospital and in 2025 we decided to do things a little differently.
Instead of running our Grand Christmas Raffle we launched our exciting Help a Heart Campaign, to raise the sum of £15,000 to provide a Corpuls mechanical chest compression machine for the hospital.
In the past year from April 2024 to March 2025, there have been 132 cardiac arrests in hospital within the Trust, averaging a cardiac arrest in hospital every two to three days.
In circumstances like these, the Corpuls mechanical chest compression is a machine that can take over the human role of providing high quality chest compressions to circulate blood to the heart and brain, especially in prolonged resuscitation attempts hospital, where human fatigue and staff resources may be a major issue.
Many hospitals, as well as ambulances, already have the Corpuls machine and our aim was to make this available to Tunbridge Wells as soon as possible.
The League of Friends is pleased to announce that as a result of our campaign and various fundraising activities, we are now in a position to purchase the Corpuls machine for the hospital.
Our Ethos
Our aim as a league is to provide patients with those items that will make their lives more comfortable and their recovery quicker. We work closely with the hospital and receive a number of requests from various wards during the year.
Recently, one of our most major contribution to date has been to provide free WIFI across the hospital at a cost of £30,000. Needless to say, it has proved to be extremely popular with patients, particularly those on a longer stay.
